Geropotamos beach - A beautiful sandy and pebbly beach with crystal-clear water, slightly cool due to the river flowing into the sea. The river, sharing the same name – Geropotamos – carries water all year round and forms a small lagoon near the shore. There is a taverna and a bar nearby. The sunsets are especially stunning! Despite the easy access, the beach remains peaceful and never crowded.


Harakas Village – the road leading to the village is a 4-kilometer eucalyptus-lined avenue starting from the small village of Prassies. In Harakas itself, you’ll find the ruins of a small Venetian fort (free entrance) and a restored Church of the Transfiguration.

Ancient Gortyna – one of the oldest cities in Crete, with over 6,000 years of history and a rich mythological and religious tradition. A true labyrinth of ruins, the site preserves many remarkable landmarks, including a unique sanctuary, an Acropolis, an ancient theater, and the famous Law Code inscribed on twelve stone blocks.

Matala – once the ancient port of Gortyna, it became famous in the 1970s as a hippie village. Today, it’s a vibrant and lively seaside town with a stunning beach and a mild microclimate. Its coastal caves and breathtaking sunsets have made it known around the world.


Margarites Village – a small village recognized as an international center of ceramic craftsmanship. All the items displayed and sold here are exclusively handmade. The residents of Margarites have practiced their craft for several thousand years, with the founding of their workshops dating back to the Minoan period.

Preveli Monastery – two 10th-century complexes: the lower, partially ruined monastery, and the upper, active male monastery. Beautiful architecture, a miraculous cross, and impressive views of the South Sea from the monastery courtyard.

Preveli Beach – one of the most famous beaches on the southern coast of Crete, known for its ancient palm forest and breathtaking views from the mountain you must cross to reach it. Around 400 steps lead down to this unique spot.

Agios Myronas Village – home to a medieval church with stained glass windows and a holy spring located in the cell of Saint Myron.

Ancient Rizinia – a Bronze Age necropolis and hilltop settlement. At the summit stands the Church of Saint Panteleimon, offering panoramic views of central Crete.

Agios Thomas Village – considered both the geographical and mystical center of Crete. This small village is filled with ritual temples, Roman tombs, and sacred sites dating from the Neolithic era to modern times. Highlights include the 11th-century Church of Saint Thomas, rock-cut chapels, and the legendary “Gates of Hell.”

Monastery of Panagia Kardiotissa – located at the edge of a gorge with a waterfall. The monastery grounds include a peacock garden, vineyards, a watermill, and a 600-year-old oak tree.

Lake Zaros – a peaceful retreat and the starting point of a hiking route through a gorge leading south. The lake is home to large fish, turtles, and geese, and features a walking trail around its perimeter. Popular family-run tavernas nearby attract visitors from all over Crete for lunch.


Ancient Lappa — a city founded after the decline of the Minoan civilization. Significant archaeological discoveries were made here, which are now exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno: original amphorae, coins, household vessels, statues, etc. Lappa is known for its Roman burials and network of paved roads. It was completely destroyed at the beginning of the Common Era.

Kournas — the only natural freshwater lake on Crete. Here you can not only ride pedal boats but also swim alongside turtles.

The Botanical Park and Gardens of Crete — a very beautiful park covering nearly 20 hectares. A natural trail about 2.5 km long runs through it. Walking along the path, you will encounter a small lake with waterfowl, a clearing with peacock houses, some species of farm animals, and of course a wide variety of plants from all over the world that have found a new home on Crete.
Entrance fee: 8 euros. At the exit, you can purchase a variety of Cretan products, aromatic herbs, and traditional drinks.
There is also a restaurant nearby offering local delicacies.


Milatos Cave — a cave complex with several entrances and numerous separate chambers divided by columns. The total length is about 200 meters.  An easy walk along a քարy path and very impressive views both outside and inside the cave.

Areti Monastery — one of the five most important fortified monasteries in Crete. In the main courtyard, there are reservoirs and several buildings, including monks’ cells, a kitchen, a bakery, a metalworking workshop, and other facilities. Outside the enclosed area, there are two large open reservoirs, an olive press, a dairy farm, and 12 ancient cypress trees symbolizing the 12 Apostles.

Windmills — a historic landscape featuring preserved traditional windmills. From here, we descend toward Mirabello Bay, making stops at panoramic viewpoints along the way.

 Plaka — an authentic seaside village on the shore of Mirabello Bay. From here, you can take a boat to Spinalonga, known as the former leper island (boat from €10, entrance to the fortress €20).

Voulisma Secret Beach — often called the “Golden Beach” or a “hidden gem.” A stunning spot in eastern Crete, awarded the Blue Flag, famous for its bright turquoise waters and white sand.

Agios Nikolaos — a small coastal town with a rich history and a central lake with a depth of 64 meters. Every September, it hosts professional cliff diving competitions (Agios Nikolaos Cliff Diving), where top athletes jump from 16-meter cliffs into Lake Voulismeni. Around the lake, there is a promenade and a wide selection of cafés, tavernas, and restaurants serving traditional cuisine.
